We spent a fantastic few days in Snowdonia during the Easter holiday - photos are now available - check back soon for a full report!

Sunburnt in March!

Posted 25th March 2007

Yes, that's right... in March, in South Wales... sunburn!

The weather turned nice for us, so we thought we'd embrace the opprtunity for some climbing and abseiling at local crag Penallta early on in the season.

Check out the gallery to find out what we got up to!

Snow today, gone tomorrow

Posted 23rd February 2007

Following our disappointment about the lack of snow at the Dolygear "winter" activity weekend, we saw two days of forecast heavy snow as the perfect opportunity to arrange an additional walk to put things right.

However, heavy rain followed the snow, and by the time we managed to get to Cadair Fawr, most of the snow had melted!  Even so, there was still enough for the various snow-related activites we had planned, and we also got to try out some of our advanced navigation skills we had recently been learning.

Photos are now available.  Videos will be posted soon.

Top award for No Limits

Posted 8th February 2007

Our website has joined just 10 other Scouting websites in the UK by being awarded the Escouts Platinum Award!  Sites are judged against several factors, including design, content, ease of navigation and various other issues.  No Limits ESU scored highly in all factors, and as such has been awarded the top "Platinum" award, and was branded by judges as "fantastic".

This is the first time a Platinum award has been given to a Welsh Scouting website, and we are greatful to everybody who has helped out or contributed content, including photos, sound bites and other quotes.

Its snow joke!

Snowball fight!Despite the snow being restricted to a few patches around the peaks, No Limits ESU recently enjoyed an excellent "winter activities weekend" at Dolygear in South Wales.

The main walk was a round trip of the central Brecon Beacons, taking in the peaks of Crybin, Pen-y-fan and Corn Du.  Along the way, there was plenty of time for numerous snowball fights, ice "skating" and other frolics.

Abseiling at DolygearFive new members were invested into the unit on the summit of Pen-y-fan - the highest peak in South Wales, at an altitude of 886 metres.

Sunday gave members the opportunity to climb and abseil on the crag at the centre, as well as make numerous videos, which will be edited together as part of next term's programme.

Check out all the action in the gallery!

Reaching new heights

Posted 28th December 2006

Explorer Scout climbingEaten too much at Christmas?  Bored of your presents already?  Can't wait for the new school term to start?  We have the perfect answer!

After an early morning start (well, 10am is early during the holidays!), we soon arrived at the Welsh International Climbing Centre.  During the day some of the Explorers managed to complete some grade 5 climbs, referred to in English as "Very Severe" - quite an achievement.

Explorers also had the opportunity to try out bouldering, and mock 'lead climbing' (where you place your own protection on the way up the climb).

Everyone was so worn out afterwards that the journey home was silent!  A great way to lose those extra pounds after Christmas.

New Explorer Scout website online!

Posted 20th December 2006

Screenshot of Explorer Scout websiteAfter months spent sourcing the perfect location, the best materials and only the finest Fair Trade coffee beans (we're even more fussy than the man on the Kenco ads), the brand new Explorer Scout Cafe is open for business!

What's on the menu? Well, there's the beautiful relaxed environment where Explorer Scouts can listen to the best new music on the jukebox, watch some great films on the TV, chat with each other via the wonders of MySpace , find out the latest news... and that's just a sample of some of the things on offer. Best thing to do is pop in yourself.

Team X go posh

Posted 29th October 2006

Five Young Leaders from No Limits spent a posh weekend in a country house including a formal 'orange tie' dinner on the Saturday night, along with other Young Leaders from across Wales.

The Young Leaders deserved the pampering though as they worked hard covering 6 Young Leader training modules. Most of Saturday was taken up on the two programme planning modules, so all those that attended should now be able to put on top quality programmes for their Sections.
