Indoors

Clothes that do not restrict movement, and have nothing loose and hanging
Warm clothes in the winter months, as climbing centres are big buildings which are difficult to heat
Trainers (sometimes you can hire climbing boots from the centres)

Outdoors

As above, but also:

Jumper/fleece, even in the summer
Waterproof
Trainers or walking boots

Active interest

If you have developed an active interest in climbing and/or abseiling, then these are the sorts of things you should think about getting:

Harness
Climbing boots
Belay device
Karabiners

Lead climbing

If you're really keen on climbing and want to go out lead climbing on your own, you will need to look at buying:
