Costs
Our annual subscription covers the majority of the costs of being an Explorer Scout. This includes:
- Insurance for activities
- Headquarters and local annual membership fees
- Bages
- Items for group use (tents, maps, climbing equipment, etc)
- Administration (printing etc)
- Leader training
- Transport costs for local activities
The annual subscription is currently £78, broken down as either three termly payments of £26, or £6.50 per calendar month; by cheque, cash or bank transfer/standing order.
There may be further costs for some activities and camps. Typical costs may be £6.50 for a day's indoor climbing, £50 for a 4-day trip to Snowdonia (indoor accomodation), or £150 for a week-long activity camp. Costs will always vary, depending on the scope of activities, use of professional instructors, and method and distance of transport.
As with all Scouting activities, the leaders are volunteers and do not receive payment for their services. The Unit's running costs are totally funded by it's annual subscription and fundraising activities.
